Ulster Scots Games Day

Saturday 23rd June saw the third annual Ulster Scots Games Day in Ballymoney hosted by the Kingdom of Dalriada Ulster Scots Society. After a damp start, the growing crowds were entertained by Dunaghy Accordian Band, Garvagh Pipe Band, the acclaimed Ulster Scots Experience orchestra and the Bendooragh Lambeg Drummers. Other performers included the Purple Thistle Ulster Scots Dancers from Bready, the Border Reevers Re-Enactment Group and Big Jim Mattison, baker of traditional Ulster breads.

Games included tug-o-war, tossing the caber, throwing the wellie and throwing the sheaf and Horse Shoes. Children's entertainment came in the form of face painting, balloon modelling and bouncy castles. A day worth going to and one to watch out for next year!

Cheers Monk! Aye it was great crack with a more than lively participation in the Games from the Glebe Mafia! They stole the show for style and enthusiasm but the Journal award for endeavour goes to Jimmy The Beard! He took the Tossing the Caber and Throwing the Wellie trophies home to Bendooragh with big Rab McKay taking home runner up Caber award. Bendooragh Blues Brothers came runner up in tug o war but fair play to the Glebe A Team who took that title off us. There's always next year, boys ....!!

A fine day! And the crowd loved it, from Children to the elderly there was plenty to do! For all those who didn't attend i urge you to attend next year, The weather let it down at the start but that didn't let anyone down, the Ulster spirt was there and it turned out a great day.
I have to add a fine re-enactment, Isnt that right Gary Blair.

Keep up the good work, Very well orginaised.
